Job roles - Who is doing what?

In our group we have decided that we will all have an equal say in everything but primarily our roles are:

  • Camera operator - Mo
  • Sound - Dawn
  • Director -  Lillie
  • Lighting -
  • Producers - all of us
Camera Operator
The camera man is the operator of the film or video camera. In film making the leading camera operator is usually called a cinematographer.
The camera operator is responsible for physically operating the camera and maintaining composition and camera angles throughout a giving scene or shot. In narrative film making, the camera operator will collaborate with the director, director of photography, actors and crew to make technical and creative decisions.

Director
Directors are responsible for creatively interpreting the written script into actual images and sounds onto screen, this can involve planning locations, shots and anything else that changes the feel of the film. They are also responsible for coordinating staff on set, directing the shooting table and ensuring deadlines are met.

Lighting
The lighting normally used in film making is either low key, high key or natural lighting, the choice of lighting depends on how you want the film to feel. Low key lighting could connote danger or fear and high key lighting could connote happiness and wellbeing.

Producer
A film producer oversees and delivers a film project to the film studio or other financing entity, while preserving the integrity, voice and vision of the film. They will also take on some financial risk by using their own money, especially during the pre-production period, before a film is fully financed.
The producer is often actively involved throughout all major phases of the film making process, from inception and development to completion and delivery of a film project

Film Opening Ideas Pitch

First Idea
Our first idea is about a gang that has gone wrong in a sense, the members aren't tight and very close and aren't loyal to each other. There is backstabbing in the group when one of the members has an affair with the gang leader's girlfriend. There is a lot of fighting, chases, violence etc. In the opening two minutes the audience will just see a girl sat on a chair in a dark room, the audience will only be able to see the girl as she will be the only part highlighted in the room to give a sense of enigma.
We haven't thought about any technical elements yet or music and titles but we will soon sit down and talk that through.
Second Idea
Our second idea has a main character of a teenage girl, she is a rough looking mean girl. The basic storyline of the whole film is about her and her journey through growing up. She has grown up in a rough town/ village and has got into a lot of trouble over her lifetime. When she realises she needs to change to get where she wants she faces challenges from her new found enemy, and it becomes a whole lot harder to change her irresponsible ways. In the opening two minutes we see the trouble that she has been getting into and cutting from that to her walking down a street or through a town with a narration on top of her explaining to the audience 'this is me, and this is what I want to change'.

After getting feedback and being asked the questions we were asked we need to get the location, music, etc. decided. Our first idea was favoured most by the class so think we will go with that one. We need to finalise all our ideas and make them in a lot of detail.
